Question: I want to purchase a printer that I can share with multiple users on my home network. What do you recommend?
Answer: While more printer manufacturers are embracing networking Hewlett Packard (web site here) is the printer manufacturer that has made the greatest strides in allowing people to share printers on a wired (Ethernet) or wireless (WiFi) network. Most of HP’s new All-In-One (print/fax/copy/scan) units include at least a wired connection with some including both wired and wireless. For standard inkjet printers, all but the entry-level printers from HP include some network capabilities. Most LaserJet’s have networking as a standard feature or included an option for a wired network connection.
No other manufacturer (Canon, Epson, Dell, Lexmark) offer the range of built-in networking capabilities that HP does. It is easy to see why HP owns a majority of the printer market.
