Question: Can I upgrade my monitor to a large LCD flat panel monitor without spending several hundred dollars?
Answer: Now is an ideal time to move up to a new LCD monitor or if you already have an older one to move up to a larger one. Over the last year prices on all sizes of LCD monitors have continued to drop with bargains at the 17” size right up through the newer 22” wide-screen LCDs. For example some very good 19” LCD monitors can now be had for as little as $175 and 17” monitor for even less.
A number of monitor manufacturers are also producing 20” and 22” wide screen monitors in the $200 – $350 range. If you want to view multiple open programs at the same time or perhaps very large spreadsheets 22” monitors are worth checking out. Samsung makes a number of LCD monitors that gets consistently good reviews.
For people who enjoy a large amount of viewing real estate there are some excellent quality 24” wide screen LCD monitors for less than $700 with some as low as $450. This may be a great time to ditch the old hot, power hungry CRT monitor even if you aren’t getting a whole new system. Or perhaps get rid of that old 15” LCD monitor for a larger viewing area. Another nice benefit of LCD monitors is that most of them come with a 3 or 4 year warranty.
