Question: I want to buy a new computer but I don’t want Windows Vista. Where can I find a system with Windows XP?
Answer: A good question and an issue that has been rather muddy since Microsoft ended all retails sales of Windows XP. At this point any system that is sold through a standard retail store is only available with Windows Vista. However many “business” systems available direct through manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo, and HP can be purchased with Windows XP. Computers with XP are also available through computer resellers such a CDW.
The Windows XP option is listed as a “downgrade” by some manufacturers, is generally Windows XP Pro, and usually costs an extra $100. These factors can vary by manufacturer or reseller. The good news is that if you want a new system with Windows XP you can still get one. Just not at a retail store.
