Question: I have Norton Internet Security Suite and I need to renew my subscription. Should I do this online or should I get a new copy on CD from a retail store?
Answer: We generally recommend purchasing the actual CD copy for several reasons. First, we have had a number of clients report having problems with the Norton (Symantec) renewal process over the years. From lack clarity in the online order process to difficulties in ordering the correct product, the process has been described as “difficult” and “confusing” by some.
Another important reason is that starting in 2007 Norton Internet Security was shipped as a three computer license. This meant that one CD could be installed on up to three systems. The online renewal process is rather vague on this area. So if you have multiple machines to protect, the CD version has some definite benefits and potential cost savings over an online renewal.
Having the actual CD in hand also has a benefit if your system crashes and you need to reinstall your software or if you replace an existing system with a new system (simply uninstall the Norton software from the old system and install it on your new system).
