Current Internet Security Threats – Viruses, Spyware, Malware and More
Do you worry about your online security? The world of internet security threats changes rapidly, on an almost minute by minute basis. Many people are unaware of the multitude of different forms of malicious software (virus, spyware, Trojans, hijackers, etc., also known as malware) circulating on computers and on the Internet. I recently became aware of a several very well done videos that are recaps of new and prominent Internet security threats impacting business and personal computers. The videos are produced by a well respected security company, Websense, which is on the front lines of protecting business clients from Internet security attacks.
Two of the videos are monthly overviews for recent months and include insights on Facebook threats, malicious emails, hijacked web sites and attacks targeted at small businesses. The other two videos are a 2-part set that provides insights into the specific Internet security threats and attacks for the first six months of 2009.
There are many sources for information about Internet and computer security threats, but these videos are quite interesting in their content, scope and presentation. I’ve written previous tech tips on security threats and protection including 5 Common Computer Security Mistakes, and Computer Firewalls – Security Basics, however these videos provide a significantly different level of insights.

Viruses, Spyware, Malware, Infected Web Sites – “What, Me Worry?”
You might be wondering if any of this applies to you. Even if you are not particularly interested in Internet or computer security, watching at least one of these videos will be an eye opener. Have you ever spoken a phrase such as:
- “Oh, computer virus problems aren’t that bad I’m not too worried”
- “I’ve never been hit by a virus before I don’t have to worry”
- “I don’t go to any nasty web sites so I don’t have to worry (ever mistyped a URL?)”
- “I don’t keep any sensitive info on my computer”
If so then you have all the more reason to watch at least one of these videos from Websense and to also make sure you aren’t making any of the 5 Common computer security mistakes.
